As Manchester City played out a nil-all draw with Manchester United at Old Trafford the lack of creativity in Pep Guardiola’s squad stood out like a sore thumb. Kevin De Bruyne tried to inspire his team but he couldn’t lift them against United. He appeared to run out of legs late in yesterday’s match. Phil Foden had two moments to make an impact, but he isn’t at his best at the moment, and they came and went. Bernardo Silva started on the wing but he isn’t the weapon he once was going forward. Omar Marmoush was starved of service, and if City had more creativity in their play, he could’ve decided yesterday’s match.
The introduction of Jack Grealish and Jeremy Doku didn’t alter yesterday’s match. Perhaps in the case of Grealish, he came on too late to have an impact yesterday. Doku tried hard on the left but his end product wasn’t there. He also lacked the service he needed to thrive as City’s midfield ran out of legs. But coming out of the game it was clear that Manchester City are screaming out for creativity and more energy in their play. That’s been obvious for a while now. But it did stand out at Old Trafford the longer yesterday’s match went on.
Manchester City are confident of signing Florian Wirtz, and if they have an edge in the race to sign him, they simply must use it.
Following yesterday’s Manchester derby a new report emerged that indicates that City are confident of signing Bayer Leverkusen playmaker Florian Wirtz. Dean Jones has reported for GIVEMESPORT that Manchester City are going to pull out all of the stops to sign Wirtz. Furthermore, Jones reports that City believe that Bayer Leverkusen’s reluctance to strengthen a rival in Bayern Munich may give them an advantage in the race to sign the German international. Jones further reports that Pep Guardiola is set to play a key role in Manchester City’s chase for Wirtz. City believe that the opportunity to play under Guardiola could persuade Wirtz to sign for City if he does decide to leave Leverkusen this summer.
But looking at Manchester City’s performance yesterday they simply must pull out all of the stops to sign Florian Wirtz. What he would bring to Pep Guardiola’s squad are attributes that City are screaming out for. They can’t afford to let an opportunity to sign the German international pass them by. We saw why they are so desperate for a player of Wirtz’s ilk first-hand at Old Trafford. Manchester City are desperate for creativity and a goal scoring threat from midfield. Wirtz is exactly that and if Pep Guardiola’s side hold an edge in the race to sign one of the most coveted names in the summer transfer window it’s something they must utilise.
Summary.
Manchester City’s interest in signing Florian Wirtz isn’t a new story. But what stood out at Old Trafford is just how desperate Pep Guardiola’s side is for a player like the German international. They simply must do all they can to sign him this summer. That will be one of biggest tasks in front of Hugo Viana and Txiki Begiristain this summer based on how desperate City are for more creativity in their squad.
